Portage Bay Cafe is officially closing its West Seattle location, offering its final brunch service on Sunday, October 25.
The restaurant chain announced the upcoming closure on social media, pointing to physical space constraints as the core issue. According to the company's statement, the venue never had sufficient indoor seating to support its business model. Although the cafe experienced strong summer sales, management explained that those gains were not enough to carry the location through another winter season.
Located at 4725 42nd Ave SW in the former Agave Cocina space, the West Seattle spot originally opened on January 7, 2023.
In the announcement, the owners expressed gratitude to the West Seattle community for its patronage. They noted that four other cafe locations in South Lake Union, Roosevelt, Ballard, and NE 65th St remain vibrant, busy, and thriving.
Their statement: " We are sad to announce that our West Seattle location will offer it's last brunch service on Sunday,
October 25th. There are many factors that led to this decision, but the simple fact is that there was never enough indoor seating to support our business model.
The support of the West Seattle community has been amazing and we are so grateful for your patronage.
Sadly, our strong summer sales are not enough to carry us through another winter.
We have four other vibrant, busy cafes that are thriving and we hope to serve you very soon at
- South Lake Union
- Roosevelt
- Ballard
- NE 65th St
Again, thank you, West Seattle.
We'll miss you.
