Local organizers with West Seattle Indivisible are setting up a stationary visibility rally and community gathering today, Saturday, October 17, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the heart of the neighborhood. The event takes place at the West Seattle Junction, specifically at the intersection of California Avenue Southwest and Southwest Alaska Street near Easy Street Records.
Designed as a nonpartisan, volunteer-led "people power to voter power" event, the gathering is being held in place of a traditional moving march. Neighbors are coming together to share early voting resources, assist community members in making a voting plan, and distribute information. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own signs.
This is one of more than 3000 similar rallies around the nation, this time focused on hyper local efforts.
Event organizers have emphasized a strict commitment to nonviolent action and de-escalation, requesting that attendees bring no weapons to the Junction.
For residents looking to continue local involvement after today, West Seattle Indivisible has scheduled follow-up activities. A sign-making party will take place on Sunday, October 18. Additionally, a postcarding session to write letters supporting voter turnout is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Beveridge Place Pub (6413 California Ave SW)
