Van der Velden

Baumgartner, M.D.

At age 81, Joan van der Velden passed away on Oct. 14, 2006. Joan was born on Christmas Day, 1924, to Frank and Marguerite Baumgartner in Toledo, Ohio.

Joan was a true pioneer, graduating in 1950 from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago as one of only three women out of a class of 176. After residency in New York City, she returned to Toledo to practice Anesthesiology. She married Hans van der Velden in 1959 and moved to Seattle by way of Jackson, Mich., in 1961.

April 3, 1917 - October 7, 2006

Harry was born in Seattle, the youngest of Bruce and Lillian Lewin's six children. He graduated from West Seattle High School and worked as a truck driver in the family business prior to being drafted into the Army to serve in Europe during WWII. After the war, Harry began what would be a long career with the City of Seattle. Harry married fellow West Seattle High graduate Jennie Hughes in 1954 and fathered three daughters. After a long battle with breast cancer, Jeannie died in 1974 and Harry was left to finish raising three teenage daughters.

My mother passed away peacefully this morning (9/27/2006) around 8:30am at the Odyssey Health Care Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada. She will be cremated in Las Vegas and her remains will be sent to Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Seattle, Washington where she will join my father. She was a loving and caring mother and lived a long and productive life. Martha will be fondly remembered by all her family and may friends.

Martha McKenzie born June 11, 1914 in Seattle, Washington and passed away September 27, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

March 8, 1938 - October 5, 2006

A long-time resident of West Seattle worked at West Seattle Hospital as a Nurse in the late 70's early 80's (15 years of Nursing.) A Bartell Employee for 16 1/2 years in Jefferson Square. Long time member at the West Seattle Eagles.

Born in Fosston, MN. She came to the west when she was only 16 years old and called Seattle home.

A wonderful mother to Scott Acopulos and Julie (Acopulos) Dodson.

Memorial held at West Seattle Eagles October 22nd, 2-5pm.

Marion Douglass, the grande dame of the Beach Drive dead-enders, passed away at her home on September 28, 2006. Friends and family � two-legged and four-legged � will miss her dearly. Marion and her identical twin, Madge were born in April, 1917. They were raised in Seattle with her brother, Stuart, and older sister, Jean. Marion spent much of her professional career as an illustrator and display artist for the Bon March/ before retiring to her home on Beach Drive.

Elmer D. (Sam) Woods, age 991/2, was born Feb. 11, 2007, in Sunnydale, Wash. He died peacefully Oct. 3, 2006, after a long and healthy life filled with gardening, fishing, hunting, and an innate ability to do most everything. He loved his family and friends and was always there to tell stories, visit and to help others.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, of 57 years and stepson William E. Bardell. He is survived by his brother Everett L.

March 14, 1917 - Sept. 19, 2006

Margery Gould Whitmore was a lovely lady who wore a smile on her face every day of her life. It was the product of an impelling force, a pleasant and generous feeling that drove her to serve her family and help her friends.

Born on March 14, 1917, she finished grades in Ellensburg through her sophomore year, and graduated from Yakima High School in 1934.

Anna Marie Rasovich, Our Beloved Friend, passed away in Seattle on Oct. 11, 2006, at the age of 45. Services will be held Oct. 19 at Grace Church, 10323 28th Ave. S.W, Seattle. Visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. and the Funeral 7 p.m. Flower deliveries accept Oct. 19 at Grace Church.

Silas Fox, D.O., 89, passed away Oct. 7, 2006, in Federal Way. He was born in Banner Elk, N.C., on July 12, 1917.

His wife of 64 years, Lillian; his son, Fred Fox and wife Susie of St. Helena, Calif.; his daughter, Beverly and husband Michael Hasting of Auburn; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.

He was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Silas and Lillian met in nurses training in Fletcher, N.C. Silas graduated from the Florida Hospital School of Nursing.

DeLora Marie Willis, longtime Ballard resident, died Sept. 27 in Springfield, Ore., of age-related causes at age 98. She was born Mar. 10, 1908, in Halfway, Ore., to Henry and Anna Koger Anson. She married Glenn Willis on Nov. 13, 1928 in Okanogan and moved to the Ballard-Crown Hill area in the 1940s.
