Obituaries

Passed away Nov. 1, 2007 at the age of 65. He was born on Jan. 17, 1942 in Crookston, Minnesota. He grew up in the Yakima Valley, graduated from Naches Valley High School before entering the U.S. Army, which he served in for six years. While serving in Germany he met Margarita, his wife of 43 years.

Curtis retired from The Boeing Company after 32 years then went into business with Margarita at Leisure Books in the West Seattle Junction. He was a member of the VFW.

Helen left this world on Nov. 1, 2007. She was preceded in death by: her husband John; mother Harriet; father George; sisters Elizabeth, Margaret and Dorothy. She is survived by: her sons Rob, Tom, and Jim; daughter-in-laws Lisa and Holly; grandchildren Bria, Sarah, Kailani, Noelle, Jonathan, Jacob, and Jessica; and sister Georgia.

She was a retired School Teacher, with most of her 30 years of teaching at Madison Middle School, teaching Physical Education. She enjoyed participating and watching all sports, and helping children any way she could.

Loving father and grandfather, friend, mentor, Presbyterian elder, and community leader, Dick passed away at Providence Mount St.

Age 74. Passed away November 1, 2007. Beloved mother of Sharon, Clifford, Deborah and Loren. Loving Grandmother to her seven grandchildren; Kevin, Elizabeth, Khallie, Joshua, Nicholas, Emily and Amanda. Preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, in 1997.

Joan was born and raised in Seattle, graduated from Roosevelt High School and enjoyed horseback riding. She met and married Clifford Saintz of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on September 19, 1952.

Passed away suddenly Oct. 31, 2007, at the age of 48. He is survived by his wife, Linda, son Ryan and stepdaughter Samantha; his precious granddaughter Emma; mother Faye and father Arthur; three sisters, Judy (Tom).

Selander

September 22, 1918 -

November 3, 2007

Kenny was born in Bellingham, received his BA in Economics from the University of Washington, his law degree from George Washington University Law School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He became Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington and formed the law firm of Selander Espedal Clark and Leavitt. After retiring he served as Chair of the Washington State Bar Senior Lawyers Section.

Kenny died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home in Burien.

Ed Whitmore was a man who loved life and lived every day to its fullest. He was an old-fashioned honorable man who took pride in his outstanding problem-solving abilities.

Ed was born in Malta, Montana, to Gertrude McDonald Whitmore and Archie Alden Whitmore. He had one sister, Margaret, and two brothers, Hugh and Bob. In the early 1920s he moved with his family to Washington state and he graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1932. It was in Ellensburg that he met Margery Gould.

Rick passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 24, 2007 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Oakdale, Neb. Aug. 30, 1938 but spent most of his childhood in Pasco, Wa., graduating from Pasco High School in 1956. He went to work in advertising for the Pasco Newspaper, moved to Seattle to work for the West Seattle Herald newspaper, then worked for many years in publishing local telephone directories. Rick was a very devoted volunteer in the White Center and Federal Way communities.

Rydberg

A long-time Burien resident, Margaret Rydberg, age 91, born June 17, 1915, in Kamiah, Idaho, passed away October 14, 2007, in Seattle due to Alzheimer's complications.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Rydberg, after 57 years of marriage. Her sons, Ray and Randy Rydberg, her daughter-in-law Jennifer Rydberg, and her grandsons, Rob and Chris Rydberg, survive her.

She was a kind, loving and strong person, devoted to her family.

A graveside service was held at Gethsemane Cemetery on Nov. 3, 2007.

Gillette

Carol Jane Gillette, 85, passed away on October 5, 2007.

Born to William Leroy and Stella Hogan, she grew up in Silverdale and attended the Clear Creek School and had many fond memories of that place and time. She married the love of her youth, Douglas H. Gillette, and they moved to Burien in 1947 where they raised their three children. She was long-time resident of the same house until 2004.

Her last years were spent with her daughter, Alison Rose, in Dixon, Mont.

She was preceded in death by Douglas in 1968 and a son, Jon, in 2004.
