Police Blotter Week of 5.11.09: A family affair
Mon, 05/11/2009
A severely intoxicated man with a history of domestic violence repeatedly threatened to kill his daughter and his wife after becoming angry, initially, over a pizza box left on a table. He came out swinging, shoving his daughter to the ground, where she hit her head. When offered the chance to tell his side of the story, the man declared that it was “burglary” for the girl to bring her friends to the home. When officers asked for clarification on why this was so, the man repeatedly asked, “Are you f*@&'n stupid?” He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of felony harassment and domestic violence assault.
Late Wednesday, a man spent time in a Ballard bar flirting with the girlfriends of other male patrons. Some blows were traded, and when the man was bounced from the establishment he said goodbye by slamming his fist through a front window.
On 5th Northwest, a woman returned home and discovered that someone had cut down a tree she had planted in her yard last year. In the past, she has noticed a neighbor bending the tree as if he wanted to break it. She plans to plant another tree. Officers warned a member of the neighbor's family that they cannot tamper with the victim's shrubs.
In Greenwood, a woman invited a homeless mother and her 8-year-old child to stay in her apartment for a few days. But the Good Samaritan had to have her locks changed after her guests disappeared with her keys and never returned.
And in Ballard, a man has good reason to believe that his girlfriend—who is currently in King County Jail—is responsible for many of the items that have gone missing from his apartment. She admitted that she had taken some cell phone headsets, but other items include a bicycle and a computer router.
As she walked out of a bar on 65th, a woman was knocked to the ground and beaten by a female assailant. Someone finally pulled two apart, but not before the victim hit her head on the sidewalk. She walked home but called 911 several hours later when she threw up and felt dizzy. She was taken to Ballard/Swedish where she was diagnosed with a concussion.
A woman on Northwest 85th is using officers as her personal enforcement unit, repeatedly inviting an old boyfriend to move in with her and then, in quick order, deciding that she wants him to move out and calling 911 to have officers do the job. She has now been warned that this behavior cannot continue.
Mental health caseworkers plan to adjust the living conditions of a local 49-year-old who has a habit of 911 abuse. Last week, as soon as medics released her after treating a cut on her arm, she called 911 again, threatening to harm herself because, “she doesn't want to live at home anymore.” Medics and ambulance personnel refuse to continue to transport her, and hospitals have refused to admit her.
Officers arrived at a Ballard home in response to a domestic violence call. They found the victim crouched behind a sofa, sobbing into the phone with the 911 operator. She had cuts above both eyes, numerous red marks on her legs, swelling on her face, and a deep, oozing, three-inch-long burn mark on her arm. The woman explained that her boyfriend of seven months had become violent for unknown reasons during a trip to Las Vegas. Medics treated her wounds and officers provided domestic violence information. The boyfriend had already left for his home in the south end.
