Police Blotter Week of 6.1.09: 'Sting' operation
Mon, 06/01/2009
Three teens were being interviewed after being caught drinking in the 4800 block of Waite Street on late Saturday. But when one girl tried to make a break for it, she ended up falling into a large patch of stinging nettles. Two lied about their identities, all three admitted drinking, and one of the girls admitted she had smoke “a lot” of weed. (In fact, she was so impaired that she couldn't spell her own middle name.) The teens' parents picked them up from the Southwest Precinct.
SPD's high-tech stolen-vehicle tracker made a good catch possible early Saturday. Officers were driving near 35th and Avalon when the “pinger” went off. After confirming that the vehicle spotted was, indeed stolen, the officers pulled the car over. The driver was a 30-year-old downtown resident well-known to officers. (It seems he has a habit of renting cars from businesses around the airport, but rarely manages to return them.) The two passengers were released. The driver was booked into King County Jail for investigation of auto theft, driving with a suspended license, and for a Department of Corrections warrant. The car, which belonged to the Port of Seattle, was impounded.
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, a 17-year-old was attacked from behind as he walked in the upper (north) section of Fauntleroy Park. The suspect swore, grabbed the victim, threw him to the ground, hit him the face and kicked him in the abdomen. The suspect is an Hispanic male, aged 22-29, stocky and clean shaven. He wore a long, heavy black coat, a black t-shirt, and red tennis shoes.
A broken taillight caused officers to pull over a car at 34th and Raymond early Saturday. The driver had no license or photo ID and admitted that his license was suspended. As he stepped from the vehicle, officers spotted a clear plastic baggie full of small white rocks of suspected cocaine. (The suspect claimed it was fake, but tests later proved it was real.) They also confiscated nine tabs of Ecstasy from the suspect. An 18-year-old passenger (who claimed to be a member of a gang) was released, but the 24-year-old driver was booked into King County Jail for investigation of drug charges and for driving with a suspended license. The car was impounded.
A couple began arguing after the subject of the wife's infidelity arose. The wife called 911 to report that her husband was spitting on her and swearing. The husband admitted this, telling officers that he did so after she “got in his face” and was yelling. Though she had called for officer assistance, the woman refused to cooperate and said, “Everything is fine.” But her husband was booked into King County Jail for investigation of misdemeanor domestic violence assault.
Officers were dispatched to a Sylvan Way residence on Saturday afternoon regarding possible narcotics use. The caller stated that she “smelled marijuana.” Officers couldn't smell it, but they did smell an odor of something that seemed to have been burned on the stove. Indeed, they saw a frying pan on the ground outside the house, and the resident confirmed that a friend had had a kitchen accident. The officers report states that the neighbors do not get along and seem to be involved in an ongoing feud.
