On Friday, a pilot made a bit of a hard landing off of Shilshole after running low on fuel while trying to check his plane's performance. En route from Bremerton to Payne Field he had trouble with his landing gear. Thinking it was down, he landed. But only one of the gear had dropped down, and the plane flipped over. Luckily the pilot was able to escape with only a cut to his head. A police boat was called to the scene to help maneuver the plane to the marina.
Just after midnight on Monday, a man with a gun robbed a gas station in the 9000 block of Holman Road. The clerk gave him $90 from the till, and he ran off through some nearby buildings. A K9 unit tried to track the suspect but was unsuccessful. He is described as a white male of medium build, about 6 foot 2 inches with short blond hair and a light-colored beard. He wore a black sweatshirt with a blue circular logo.
A woman was surprised when friends mentioned they had seen her house on Evanston Avenue North. advertised for rent on Craigslist. (Although the residence is on the market, it is not a rental.) When prospective renters stopped by to see the home, the owner explained they had been scammed by someone trying to get access to private data: Most had sent background information, if not money, to someone posing as the owner. The FBI has been alerted to the incident.
Monday, Aug. 31, a woman was jogging at Carkeek Park around 2:30 in the afternoon when she heard footsteps from behind. A young man, aged 22-29 jogged by, and as he did he grabbed her in the buttocks. He wore a black Ramones T-shirt, had short brown hair, and wore headphones.
Someone got hold of a Ballard woman's credit card number and made over $3,000 worth of online purchases.
Saturday, Aug. 29, as a woman in her 50s walked in the 1200 block of Northwest 85th , a car carrying two women pulled alongside. The passenger got out and asked for directions, but suddenly made a grab for the victim's handbag. Though the victim lost her purse, she was able to throw a cup of hot coffee on the culprit. The suspects were white females, aged 30-49.
Someone recently broke into a car in the 8700 block of 31st Northwest, causing damage valued at $250. Not included in that tally was the cost of the one stolen item: a large box of M&Ms.
