8:30 p.m. July 4 – 11:30 a.m. July 5, 3900 Block of Second Ave. N.W.
Victim stated that on July 4, a woman with whom he had a relationship (the redacted police report leaves the nature of that relationship to the imagination) was sitting in her vehicle in front of his residence.
In a text message, she told the vicim she was going to break into his house and take his laptop. Officers arrived and escorted the woman from the scene.
Later that evening, the vicim received further text messages from the woman, thought the content of those messages has been redacted.
The victim's house alarm was tripped early July 5 when someone entered and exited through the front door with his Macbook Pro.
Officers located the woman at the scene. She stated she was trying to retrieve her vehicle keys from the victim and leave. Police escorted her home to Linden Avenue North.
Later that morning, the victim returned home to find his bedroom window wide open, the front door unlocked and his Macbook Pro missing. Inside the window were a half a sandwich and numerous rocks and pebbles that had not been there before.
The victim's roommate's car, which was parked below the window, was damaged when the suspect apparently stood on it to gain access to the house.
The suspect's vehicle was till in the driveway. Over text messages to the victim, the woman claimed she did not take the laptop.
Of the mysteries involved in this case (the relationship of the woman to the victim, the content of those late-night text messages, etc.), the appearance of an unfamiliar, half-eaten sandwich remains the greatest.
12:01 a.m. July 5 – 1 a.m. July 5, 1700 Block of N.W. 64th St.
Sometime in the early morning of July 5, the suspect kicked in the front door to an apartment and began rummaging through drawers and closest. The suspect stole a 46-inch plasma, flat-screen television, an Xbox 360, a Dell laptop, an iPod and approximately $200.
The victim became suspicious his son's friends had committed the burglary. When contacted by his father, the son, a 28 year old living in Magnolia, said he believes his friend was responsible.
The victim told his son he wanted all the stolen items back. The son said he would do his best, but the victim remained skeptical about the return of his property.
