The White Center Food Bank announced in an email newsletter that will change their internal structure this summer, moving to a "Grocery Store" model letting people have a more shopping style experience rather than having staff fill bags to be given out.
Their announcement reads:
"We are excited to announce that we will be moving to a grocery store model this summer. This model gives those that we serve a more dignified and realistic shopping experience, which is exactly why we are making the change! The grocery store model allows folks to make selections on their own, read labels, and move at their own pace. Many food banks in Seattle and South King County have made the switch without looking back. We are learning best practices from these peers to ensure a successful transition."
They plan to share more updates and will be holding a Grand Opening party in July to debut the new look and experience.
