WSDOT said today that crews removing the seismically vulnerable Alaskan Way Viaduct have reached the Seneca Street ramp. They will remove a small section of the ramp on the west side, and continue moving north along the mainline portion of the viaduct. There are now several blocks along the waterfront free and clear of the viaduct, opening up new, amazing views of the waterfront.

Another crew north of the Pike Place Market continues to cut pieces of the structure and use cranes to lift them away. This operation is different due to the steep slope and proximity of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks.

Crews are rebuilding Seventh Avenue (formerly Aurora Avenue North) between Denny Way and Harrison Street and plan to accelerate the filling of the Battery Street Tunnel next week. They have a new web post about that with new photos taken inside the Battery Street Tunnel.
