Series of Zoom meetings will explore and explain West Seattle tunnel concept

Join Bob Ortblad in one of a series of recurring Zoom Meetings to ask questions about an Immersed Tube Tunnel across the Duwamish, June 10, 17, and 24.

Retired Civil Engineer Bob Ortblad's idea for a tunnel under the Duwamish instead of a bridge has changed the conversation about replacing the damaged high rise West Seattle Bridge. 

Multiple questions about feasibility, cost, timing and more emerged and Ortblad reports getting a growing body of support from engineers, and people interested in the issue.

Now he is holding a series of virtual meetings via Zoom to explain the idea and answer questions from the public.

"I've been expanding the presentation as more questions have come up that needed answers so the concept has grown," explained Ortblad.

I love the tunnel idea. As much angst as there was about the 99 Tunnel, that tunnel has become a fantastic and much quicker means to get through downtown Seattle. A WS tunnel with exits to the 99 (both directions, please) would clear space above for surface (bus and freight) traffic. Please work the light rail into the plan now.

I'd like it to be... safe, fast, cost effective, and started. In this order. Tunnel or bridge, it doesn't matter.

The tunnel is a great idea. It will help improve the Seattle skyline, thus increasing property values. It will facilitate the CIRCLA projects on the Duwamish river. The tunnel is the best option.

Why not both? Tunnel, then eventually replace the bridge and add light rail. Tunnel could then become transit only if analysis shows that would be beneficial. The population is only going to grow so we need as many methods as we can get.

I joined the call tonight to support Bob and his wisdom with the Subaqueous Tunnel approach. Unfortunately some disrespectful people hacked the call with racist and inappropriate interruptions. My heart hurts for Bob and I'm hopeful that I can find a way to have a personal zoom with him in the very near future. If this is possible possibly someone from Westside Seattle could a provide me a path to contact him. I fear putting my contact info here because somebody might hack me.
