This week, we continued preparing for post-tensioning on the West Seattle Bridge. Our prep work included welding and fastening sections of protective ducts to our temporary rigging inside the bridge. We also performed more pre-tensioning epoxy crack injection and carbon-fiber wrapping work to reinforce sections of concrete near the new post-tensioning structural components. While we continue to use the work platforms beneath the bridge to complete epoxy and carbon-fiber work, we are also using an under-bridge inspection truck to reach other sections of the bridge’s girder that are not accessible from the work platforms.

We are continuing to install protective ducts inside the bridge that will encase the post-tensioning cables. As part of this effort, we are fastening the ducts to temporary rigging lines that help keep the ducts level, making it easier to thread post-tensioning cables through the ducts. 

This week, we poured eight concrete sign foundations for the replacement signs. We also continued preparation for new concrete overlay on sections of the Fauntleroy Expressway and removed more concrete panels on the western approach to the bridge structure. We will replace 61 panels of worn concrete before the bridge reopens. These and other maintenance work activities will continue as crews make more progress on the new post-tensioning system.

We poured eight concrete foundations for replacement sign structures this week as part of our major maintenance work that will prepare the bridge for reopening. 

On the western approach to the bridge, we are currently demolishing sections of concrete paneling that will be replaced with new concrete in the coming months.
