The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is set to implement changes to on-street parking in West Seattle following a request from City Councilmember Rob Saka. These adjustments are intended to address public safety concerns and improve parking availability in specific areas.
Two main areas will see changes:
• Duwamish Head Parking Adjustment: Angled parking located along Duwamish Head, just north of Don Armeni Park, will be converted to parallel parking. ADA-designated parking will be maintained in this area. Existing overnight restrictions from 11 PM to 5 AM will also remain in place. This specific change is being made in response to public safety concerns raised by both community members and the Seattle Police Department. Issues such as loitering and illegal activities, particularly during evenings and summer months, have been reported in this area. The Duwamish Head changes are expected to be completed by mid-June, although this is dependent on crew availability and weather conditions.
The area affected is near Duwamish Head, north of Don Armeni Park, as shown on the map.
• Alki Avenue SW Parking Adjustment: There is a proposal to re-establish daytime on-street parking on the west/water side of Alki Avenue SW, specifically between the 1200 and 1700 blocks, where the street is wide enough. This proposed change aims to help offset the reduction in parking at Duwamish Head and meet the increased demand for parking, particularly during summers. Changes in this area could potentially be installed in the summer of 2025. Additional outreach to the community regarding the Alki Avenue SW proposed changes is planned for later this summer. SDOT will engage with the community to address questions and gather feedback before the final design is implemented.
The public also has an opportunity to take a short survey on the Alki Avenue SW changes, which closes on June 22, 2025.

SDOT is overseeing these adjustments.
