Mount Vernon 4, Ballard 3

No. 4 seeded Ballard gave No. 1 seeded Mount Vernon a battle before being edged in a Class 3A state semifinal ballgame Friday afternoon.

The Beavers officially finished in a tie for third place in the state, since it was determined that Saturday's third place game would not be played.

Gig Harbor lost its state semifinal to Kennewick by a 12-5 score Friday morning.

All of the semifinal action -- and Saturday's scheduled 4 p.m. championship between Mount Vernon and Kennewick -- took place at Parker-Faller Field in Yakima.
