Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is inviting the public to attend an open house to learn more about the development of a new Off-Leash Area (OLA) at West Seattle Stadium. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, from 4-6 p.m. and will be held at the West Seattle Stadium, specifically in the overflow parking lot which is the site of the future OLA.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project and provide feedback on a preferred schematic design. This design is based on input SPR has received so far from the community.
The development at West Seattle Stadium is part of a larger effort following the Off-Leash Area (OLA) Expansion Study, which SPR completed in early 2024. This study identified multiple suitable sites for future OLA development. Sites at West Seattle Stadium and Othello Playground were subsequently funded and are now underway.
The project is funded by the Seattle Park District, which provides $3,103,000 for the planning, design, and construction of both the West Seattle Stadium OLA and an OLA at Othello Playground.
The new development at West Seattle Stadium will transform the current unpaved overflow parking lot into an OLA. The planned features include a fenced area for unleashed dogs, seating, and a planted stormwater bioretention area.
The project timeline is outlined as follows: Planning occurred in Summer 2024, Design is taking place in Spring 2025, Construction is scheduled for Spring 2026, and Completion is anticipated for Fall 2026.
Community participation has been a part of the process, with previous public meetings held on October 23, 2024 (Public Meeting #1) and February 23, 2025 (Public Meeting #2). SPR has released engagement analysis and survey results from these previous meetings.
The June 5 meeting (Public Meeting #3) is focused on the preferred schematic design based on the input received.
For those interested in learning more about the project or providing feedback, the open house on June 5 is the next opportunity. The West Seattle Stadium is located at 4432 35th Ave SW.
