West Seattlelites will have two important opportunities next week to engage with city officials and law enforcement on public safety issues. Two distinct forums are scheduled, providing different avenues for dialogue and input on making Seattle safer.
Micro-Community Policing Plans Community-Police Dialogue for SW Precinct
The first meeting is the Micro-Community Policing Plans (MCPP) Community-Police Dialogue for the Southwest Precinct, set for Monday, August 11th, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, via Zoom.
• Purpose: These dialogues are designed to allow the Seattle community and police to discuss the results of the 2024 Seattle Public Safety Survey and current public safety concerns.
• Participants: Attendees will include a broad range of Seattle Police Department (SPD) personnel, such as recruits, officers, command staff, crime prevention coordinators, community service officers, and administrative professionals. Everyone who lives and/or works in Seattle is invited to join.
• Distinction: It is important to note that these MCPP dialogues are not the same as the "Before the Badge" dialogues; they include a wider array of SPD personnel and address public safety in a more general sense.
• Participation: To participate, individuals must sign up online. A Zoom link will be sent via email prior to the meeting. If a link is not received by 3 PM on the day of the meeting, participants are advised to email dlamell@seattleu.edu. These dialogues are part of a series continuing through the end of August 2025.
Creating a Safer Seattle Public Safety Forum
The second significant event is the Creating a Safer Seattle Public Safety Community Forum, which will take place on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, at the Delridge Community Center.
• Focus: This forum is specifically focused on neighborhoods in District 1.
• Agenda: The event will feature new Police Chief Shon Barnes sharing his vision for Seattle-Centric policing. Attendees will also receive updates on the city’s progress regarding the One Seattle Restoration Framework and will have the opportunity to engage in discussions about public safety and public health solutions for the city.
• Representatives: The forum will include representatives from various city departments, including the Seattle Police Department, Fire Department, CARE Department, Parks, Seattle Public Utilities, Human Service Department, and Department of Transportation, who will discuss progress and gather feedback from the community.
• Participation: RSVP is required using a provided registration link, as seating is limited due to venue capacity. After registering, attendees are also encouraged to complete a public safety survey to help measure progress and provide feedback. This forum is one of several planned for neighborhoods throughout the summer.
Both meetings offer crucial opportunities for Seattle residents to voice their concerns, learn about city initiatives, and contribute to the ongoing efforts to enhance public safety across the community
