Information from West Seattle Food Bank
The Clothesline, a free community clothing bank operated by West Seattle Food Bank, must find new space by the end of 2025 due to the sale of its current host property.
“The Clothesline is a simple idea with a profound impact – dignity. It gives people the chance to choose clothing that fits their lives, their needs and their style — the same way any of us would want to shop,” said Fran Yeatts, Executive Director of the West Seattle Food Bank. “That dignity is what makes this program so powerful and why finding it a new home is so urgent."
The Clothesline is a free clothing bank open to all who need clothing. Last year we provided over 90,000 items of clothing to individuals and families who were permitted to shop for themselves and to choose what best suits their needs. Our inventory is from donations of new or gently used clothing and bedding from our community neighbors. This is one of the few clothing banks in the region with total self-selection and constant stock catering to all ages, sizes, and gender. We are currently leasing space from a local church which is in the process of selling the property.
The current facility has approximately 1,250 sq feet of display space, 1,250 sq feet of workspace for processing donations and additional space for storage and restrooms. We currently pay $3,000/month rent and this includes utilities.
Ideally, we are looking for a space that will be:
• 2,000 sq feet, but space can be in different rooms.
• Within close distance to a bus line.
• Within 5 miles of the West Seattle Food Bank.
• Some parking available and a convenient place for neighbors to bring in donations.
• Ideally wheelchair accessible.
The West Seattle Food Bank is a non-profit 501c3 organization whose mission is to strengthen the community through the power of neighbors helping neighbors, working to ensure all in our community have access to the necessities of living. “Clothing confidence matters—for interviews, for school, to feel ready for Seattle winter,” added Yeatts. “If you have space or know someone who does, you could be key to making a real difference for thousands of our neighbors.”
