Chief Sealth International High School is setting the stage for a spectacular collaboration this December, hosting the "Winter Sealthstice: A Performing Arts Celebration". Set for December 18 at 7:00 PM in the Chief Sealth IHS Auditorium, located at 2600 SW Thistle Street, this performance promises to be a powerful display of student talent and a crucial fundraiser for the school’s expanding arts programs.
This unique concert event will feature nearly every performing arts group at the high school, including the Symphonic Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Drama. While attendees can expect individual performances showcasing separate winter-themed selections from each music program, the highlight of the evening will be the collaborative spirit demonstrated through three "massive pieces". For these major numbers, the choir, orchestra, and symphonic bands will all perform together.
Organizers are hoping the "Winter Sealthstice" will become an annual event as it serves a vital fundraising role for the Denny Seatlh Performing Arts (DSPA) booster organization. These funds are essential for supporting the growth seen within the programs—for example, the Jazz Band has recently split to form both a Jazz 1 and a Jazz 2 ensemble.
The money raised is directed toward supporting the needs of these programs where the district budget falls short. DSPA ensures students have essential materials, covering costs for things like new uniforms, instrument repair, replacement strings for violins, and the purchase of the actual musical scores used by the students.
Crucially, the fundraising efforts help DSPA provide necessary scholarships. These scholarships ensure students are supported when traveling for significant performance and competition events, such as the Disneyland Music Program and the esteemed Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
To help support these dedicated young performers and their programs, a suggested donation of $10.00, or "what you will," is requested for entry. This performance is not only a celebration of winter but a direct investment in the futures of Chief Sealth’s growing performing arts community
