The project team for the Alki Elementary School redevelopment has reached a major milestone this March, signaling that the "finish line" is finally in sight for the neighborhood landmark. In a recent update to the community, the team provided a sneak peek into the building’s interior, which is rapidly transforming into a modern learning environment.

Interior Progress Reaches Final Stages
Construction inside the school has moved into the finishing phases. In the classrooms, crews are currently completing the installation of carpeting, fixtures, and storage cubbies. One of the most striking features of the new facility is a three-story commons area, which now showcases its architectural highlights: skylights, exposed timber, and unique overhanging reading nooks.

Additionally, work is progressing in the community center gymnasium, where workers are currently installing the flooring. Recent photos from the site show a large mural and a climbing wall already in place within the gym area.
Playground Closures and Alternatives
While the building nears completion, outdoor work is ramping up. Starting March 25th, the South Alki Playground will be closed to the public for several months to allow for planned improvements. Families in the area are encouraged to use Whale Tail Park to the north, which will remain open and available for play throughout this period.
Neighborhood Impacts and Safety Measures
As construction continues, the project team is emphasizing safety and coordination with the surrounding community. Neighbors should be aware of the following logistics:
Working Hours: Standard construction occurs between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, though occasional night or weekend work may be necessary.
Deliveries: Truck traffic is expected four to five days a week, typically between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM. The primary delivery route follows Admiral Way to 59th Street, entering the west side of the job site.
Sidewalk Closures: For public safety, the sidewalk on the east side of the site remains closed.
Site Security: The area is under constant video surveillance and on-site security personnel to prevent unauthorized access.
The project is being managed by Cornerstone General Contractors in partnership with Seattle Public Schools. Project officials, including Brian Fabella of Seattle Public Schools and Matt Everett of Cornerstone, remain the primary points of contact for community inquiries as the school prepares for its final stretch of construction.
