The Taste of White Center is back June 20 from 12 to 3pm.
The White Center Food Bank (WCFB) is set to host the Taste of White Center on June 20 from 12 PM to 3 PM, a community fundraiser designed to showcase the neighborhood's rich culinary diversity while addressing local food insecurity. This family-friendly event will feature more than 30 participating restaurants, offering attendees the chance to sample a wide array of flavors ranging from banh mi sandwiches and bubble tea to tacos and pizza.
How the Event Works
Attendees can participate by purchasing $5 tickets at a central location in downtown White Center, situated at the intersection of 16th Ave SW and 98th St. Each ticket grants the holder a small plate, drink, or dessert from a participating establishment. Upon purchasing tickets, guests will receive a "menu" that includes a map and details of all available items. Iconic local favorites such as Puffy Pandy, Sap Sap Lao Cafe, Young’s, and Salvadorean Bakery are among the many restaurants ready to serve the community.
While ticket proceeds go directly to the White Center Food Bank, sponsorship dollars are allocated to the restaurants to cover ingredient and event costs. Organizers note that the event is first-come, first-served, as quantities at each restaurant are limited.
New Highlights: Merchandise and Community Recipes
This year’s celebration introduces several new ways for the community to show their support:
- Exclusive Merchandise: Limited-edition t-shirts, hats, and tote bags will be available for a suggested donation while supplies last.
- Community Recipe Book: The WCFB will debut its first cookbook, “Bringing People Together One Plate at a Time.” This collection features recipes from staff, volunteers, and partners, celebrating the cultural traditions of White Center. Copies are available for a suggested donation of $40, with proceeds benefiting both the White Center Food Bank and Dream of Wild Health.
Beyond the food, the event promises a festive atmosphere with live music, local vendors, and a dedicated kid’s area.
Feeding a Growing Need
The fundraiser comes at a critical time for the organization. Founded in the mid-1970s as an emergency response to an economic downturn, the White Center Food Bank continues to serve as a vital resource for families facing difficult economic conditions.
The scale of their impact is significant; in 2025, the food bank served 15,549 individuals and distributed 1.7 million pounds of food through various programs, including home deliveries, mobile food banks for seniors, and a specialized Baby Pantry. To ensure accessibility, the food bank provides intake services in nine different languages.
