This summer, the sound of electric guitars and rhythmic drums will echo through West Seattle as young musicians prepare for their moment in the spotlight. Mode Music Studios and Mode Music and Performing Arts are opening their doors to local families with a powerful promise: the cost of tuition should never be a barrier to artistic expression.
Through an innovative Pay What You Can program and various grant-funded scholarships, eligible students can access half-day and full-day music and theatre camps at significantly reduced rates or even for free. The organization is actively seeking to connect with more families who could benefit from these financial opportunities throughout the summer season.

For those ready to plug in, the Summer Rock Band camps offer a unique experience tailored for students ranging from elementary to high school. Each week, these young artists form a band, rehearse under the guidance of professional coaches, and experience the thrill of a live performance. While many bands will wrap up their week on the stage at Tim’s Tavern in White Center, one group is destined for a particularly high-profile debut.
The camp session beginning July 6 will culminate in a special performance on the West Seattle Summer Fest Main Stage on Saturday, July 11. Beyond the technical skills of learning an instrument, these programs are designed to help West Seattle youth discover newfound confidence, lasting friendships, and the pure joy that comes from making music and art together.
Families interested in exploring these opportunities can visit the Mode Music booth during Summer Fest to learn about lessons and nonprofit programs, or register online for rock bands and inclusive theatre camps.
