The West Seattle dining scene is set for a flavorful transformation as Taste and Best Authentic Indian Cuisine prepares to open its doors at 4752 California Ave SW. The new restaurant will take over the prominent space that has been home to just closed, Great American Diner and Bar since 2017.
A Broad Culinary Vision
Owned by Yaajasy, who has been in the United States for approximately six years, Taste and Best aims to provide a comprehensive "Pan-Indian" dining experience. While the restaurant specializes in South Indian delicacies from regions like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, the menu will cover the entire nation.
Diners can expect a diverse range of offerings including:
- Indian Street Food: Known as "chaats," featuring items like samosa chaat, bhel puri, and dahi puri.
- Traditional Entrees: Classic North Indian favorites such as chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, vindaloo, and saag paneer.
- Regional Specialties: A variety of dosas (including masala, ghee roast, and even chocolate) and biryanis.
- Breakfast Fusion: The owner plans to serve both American and Indian breakfast options alongside lunch and dinner.
Spice and Service
The restaurant will utilize the familar star-based spice system—ranging from mild (two stars) to spicy (five stars)—using native Indian chilies and powders to achieve authentic heat levels. Yaajasy estimates the average price range for a meal will be between $25 and $30.
The transition includes a unique arrangement regarding the establishment's full cocktail bar. While Taste and Best awaits the approval of its own Class H liquor license (a process expected to take about two months), the previous owner, Glen, has agreed to continue operating the bar through a mutual understanding to ensure uninterrupted service for patrons.
Expanding Footprint
This West Seattle location is the latest addition to Yaajasy’s growing portfolio, which includes Magic Masala in Seattle, KGF in Kirkland, and another Taste and Best in Shoreline. The Shoreline branch is scheduled to open on July 15th, followed closely by the West Seattle opening, which is currently targeted for July 18th or 20th.
Renovations are already underway to update the building's exterior with new paint and signage to reflect the new brand.
