Gregory Wayne Galitzeck, the man accused of stealing copper wire from the West Seattle Bridge while impersonating a utility worker, failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment today. In response to his absence, the court has issued a $5,000 bench warrant for his arrest.
Galitzeck's charges stem from a June 27 incident where he was spotted on the bridge deck at approximately 1:16 a.m.. When questioned by a patrolling officer, Galitzeck claimed to be a Seattle City Light employee who had been on the job for two months and was repairing a "snag" in the bridge lights. However, he could not provide identification and was unable to explain the absence of colleagues or work trucks. Seattle City Light later confirmed that no personnel were authorized to be on the bridge that morning.
During the initial arrest, police discovered:
- Several spools of copper wire Galletek was seen rolling up.
- Heavy-duty wire cutters, a flashlight, and various hand tools.
- Methamphetamine and an illegal fixed-blade throwing knife.
Galletek was originally booked into the King County Jail for investigation of criminal impersonation, theft, malicious mischief, and carrying a dangerous weapon. While initial police reports listed his age as 47, the most recent court update identifies him as a 37-year-old.
