Community members in King County have a wonderful opportunity to give their favorite household goods and clothing a second life.

 The King County Solid Waste Division is hosting the free White Center Repair Event on September 19, running from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The community gathering will take place at the White Center Fieldhouse (affectionately known as the "Log Cabin") inside Steve Cox Memorial Park, located at 1321 SW 102nd St in Seattle.

At the event, skilled volunteer "fixers" will lend their craftsmanship to try to repair and mend household items for attendees at no charge. A wide array of personal and household belongings are welcome, including small appliances, electronics, lamps, vacuums, toys, electric power tools, jewelry, clothing, textiles, and small furniture items such as chairs and drawers. Services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis for everyone's first item, and fixers will attempt to address second items if time allows after helping everyone with their initial item.

To help the event run smoothly, all items brought in for repair must be reasonably clean, and attendees should keep a few guidelines in mind. Fixers will not work on gasoline-powered equipment, cell phones, tablet computers, microwaves, knife or tool sharpening, major clothing alterations, or lengthy reconstructive repairs. Additionally, organizers note that repairs may be declined depending on the specific item, repair type, or fixer availability.
