Authorities and school officials are investigating an incident at Alki Elementary School after an unknown woman approached three first-grade students near the playground fence during morning recess.
At approximately 9:15 a.m on Oct. 1 the woman allegedly told the children that she had a "crown" in her car and attempted to persuade them to follow her to see it.
The students refused to go with her, immediately ran away, and reported the interaction to school staff. None of the children were injured, and none followed the woman.
The students described the suspect as being "grandma age" and driving a silver car. According to the students, the woman also allegedly stated that she would return later. Supervising faculty members on the playground did not witness the interaction directly.
After gathering details about the incident, Alki Elementary Principal Mason Skeffington notified Seattle Public Schools Safety and Security and called 911 at 1:09 p.m.. As a precaution, a Seattle Police Department patrol officer was stationed at the campus during afternoon dismissal at 2:25 p.m..
The Seattle Police Department is actively investigating the matter under SPD Incident #26-292903. Principal Skeffington sent a note home to families encouraging parents to speak with their children about stranger safety and reminding families to utilize the district's SaferWatch tip line to report suspicious activity.
