The release marks progress following the project's 30% design milestone reached in July. Set to open in 2035, the 3 Line will offer transit passengers views of Mount Rainier and the Duwamish River as it travels from SODO to Delridge alongside the West Seattle Bridge. In addition to highlighting track alignments, the video showcases pedestrian infrastructure and bus connections at future station locations.
The 3D model incorporates project design choices through July 2026 along with site-specific geotechnical data collected during field research. These real-world soil conditions are visible as distinct layers surrounding the train while it passes through the tunnel to Alaska Junction.
Editors Note: The flyover shows the West Seattle Corporate Center still standing though the property acquistion meeting held Oct. 8 showed that it will be removed to serve as a staging area for construction
Once integrated into the regional light rail network, the 3 Line is expected to reduce travel times between Alaska Junction and Westlake from roughly 30 minutes down to about 16 minutes. Riders will gain faster access to downtown Seattle and reduced trip durations across the wider region.
According to Sound Transit, these video renderings assist design teams, including architecture, permitting, sustainability, passenger experience, accessibility, and construction groups, in visualizing plans and collaborating with external partners such as the City of Seattle. The agency is also coordinating with partner groups planning street and neighborhood enhancements across the project corridor. Further community engagement and feedback collection will take place as the project approaches the start of construction.
