The Spokane Street Swing Bridge, also known as the low bridge, will close to motor vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, until 4 a.m. on Monday, October 26. Crews are closing the bridge across the West Duwamish Waterway to replace center lock components that lock the swing spans together to proactively keep the bridge operating smoothly. Officials noted that additional repairs are scheduled as the year rounds out.
While drivers cannot drive across the bridge during this time, people walking, biking, and rolling will still be able to use the low bridge to cross the waterway. The bridge serves as a crucial link across the West Duwamish Waterway for non-motorized travelers moving around Duwamish Valley communities and West Seattle.

Travel Options and Detour Recommendations
Several travel alternatives are available for those navigating the area during the weekend closure:
West Seattle High Bridge: The high bridge remains fully open to drivers with no vehicle restrictions. However, pedestrians and people biking are strictly prohibited on the high bridge.
Bus Service:Bus routes traveling via the high bridge provide service across the Duwamish Waterway and accommodate passengers walking, riding conventional bikes, or using wheelchairs. Transit users can check King County Metro's trip planner for schedule updates.
West Seattle Water Taxi: Operated by King County, the water taxi offers direct daily service between West Seattle and downtown Seattle, with vessels equipped to store up to 26 bikes at a time.
Freight and Industrial Access: Freight drivers and workers needing access to Harbor Island can reach it from the east via SW Spokane Street before reaching the swing bridge. Drivers heading to Terminal 5 from the east should use alternate routes such as the high bridge.
Officials expressed appreciation to low bridge travelers and the West Seattle community for their patience during the maintenance work.
