Seattle Police officers arrested a 41-year-old man after he allegedly attempted to break into one home and then forced his way into a neighboring residence in West Seattle.
The incident began around 2:00 PM in the 7000 block of Fauntleroy Way SW, located southwest of Morgan Junction, when 911 dispatchers received a call reporting an attempted burglary. According to incident records, the suspect initially walked into a backyard and demanded a blanket from a female resident. When she informed him that she did not have one, he became hostile, accused her of lying, and attempted to force open the home's rear and basement doors while the resident remained on the line with 911 operators.
After failing to open the doors at the first home, the suspect walked down the block toward SW Austin Street. He then kicked through the back door of a neighboring house, breaking both the frame and the deadbolt. Once inside, he raided the kitchen, consuming milk and bananas, before moving into a bedroom.
Officers from the Southwest Precinct arrived and surrounded the SW Austin Street residence. After public address calls over a loudspeaker went unanswered, officers cleared the residence room by room. They ultimately discovered the suspect asleep under the covers in a bedroom and took him into custody without further resistance.
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail on charges of Residential Burglary and Attempted Residential Burglary. During his initial court appearance, prosecutors requested bail be set at $50,000, but the presiding judge set it at $25,000. Court probable cause documents also noted that the suspect had an outstanding warrant from Kent for 4th Degree Assault and Failure to Appear.
