Meeting at 1:00 PM on the northern rocky beach near Marination Ma Kai Station by Seacrest Pier, participants arrived dressed in their spookiest, silliest, and most enchanting attire. Equipped with stand-up paddleboards and kayaks, the spellbinding group pumped up their boards, posed for fun photos, and launched onto the Puget Sound at 1:15 PM.

The event marked the 5th Annual Witches & Warlocks Paddle on the Puget Sound, organized by Maari Falsetto with Inner Alchemy. Maari first conceived the idea as the community emerged from the pandemic, seeking to lift spirits and combat feelings of isolation through a joyful, playful gathering. What began as an inaugural outing that drew 65 to 70 paddlers in its first year grew into a cherished annual Halloween tradition designed to cast a spell of joy, community, and fun across the water.

While there were no cauldrons or formal incantations out on the water, the two-hour excursion was filled with laughter and camaraderie. Unexpected splashdowns were all part of the magic—a tradition born during the very first paddle when Mari fell into the Sound, stood up, and started cackling, prompting the whole group to join in. Whenever a paddler took an unexpected dip this year, fellow witches happily carried on the cackling tradition.

By 3:00 PM, the paddlers pulled out of the water, deflated their boards, and concluded another memorable Halloween gathering on the Sound. The family-friendly tradition welcomed witches, wizards, and magical beings of all kinds to celebrate together on the water.
