Shortly after 9 p.m. on May 30 a man walking on 20th Ave S.W. between Kenyon and Holden streets noticed two black males around 18 years old walking very closely behind him. He turned around to look at them and one suspect asked what he was looking at while the other tried to grab his black messenger bag. The victim held on tight so the suspect reached inside the bag to gather some loot, ripping out part of the bag’s liner instead of any valuables. The suspects ran westbound on S.W. Holden and handed the torn liner off to a third male walking down the street (not associated). The third male told the victim he thought the young robbers lived in a nearby apartment complex, but he did not know them personally.
SPD responded to a burglary call on the 4000 block of California Ave S.W. on May 25 and came out of it with a pretty solid suspect description. The burglary victim told police she was house-sitting at her sister’s place with a friend and they stepped out onto the balcony for a smoke. Two males she described as Samoan – and one she knew from social gatherings – approached her and started a conversation. The women became “uncomfortable” and went inside, then left the house around 1 a.m. The house-sitting sister returned at 8 a.m. to find the house ransacked. She also found a pair of sunglasses on the ground that looked just like the pair one of last night’s suspects was wearing. Police gathered suspect information and the sunglasses for DNA evaluation.
On June 5 just before 4 p.m. Denny Middle School’s interior burglar alarm went off and school security investigated, according to the Seattle Police Department’s Blotter. They could hear “banging and breaking glass” and witnessed a juvenile suspect in the office area walking around breaking things. Southwest Precinct officers responded to aid school security and a short-lived game of cat-and-mouse ensued. The 13-year-old suspect ran into an interior courtyard and officers cut off his means of escape. He tried another direction but was quickly apprehended by police. Several glass panels were broken inside and the young suspect was released to his father after getting booked at the precinct.
