Stealing a snack
On July 28 a QFC shoplifter was apprehended by store security and arrested by police. At 9:30 p.m. the security guard witnessed a woman put a can of Cool Whip and a box of cookies in her purse. She was almost out the front doors when the guard approached her and identified himself. The suspect fled and the guard pursued. The woman ran into the cart return corral and attempted to crawl under the metal bars, slowing enough in the process for the guard to grab her purse. The woman turned back and bit his right hand, breaking the skin. Police arrived at that point and booked the suspect in jail for investigation of robbery and an outstanding warrant for assault. The Cool Whip and cookies were recovered from her purse.
A burglar’s trade
A woman’s Barton St. home was burglarized on August 1 sometime between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. The unknown burglar broke in through a window and ransacked her room, only stealing two rare editions of Webster’s Dictionaries worth an estimated $400 each. Before leaving, the thief left some lottery tickets and a can of Coca-Cola on a dresser. Police took the soda can in for fingerprint analysis and told the woman to keep the lottery tickets … just in case they were winners.
Muscles lose tug-o-war
A muscle-bound suspect with his shirt tied around his waist approached a man waiting at an 8000 block Fauntleroy bus stop on August 1. After telling the suspect he didn’t have a cigarette to lend, the suspect punched him in the face. The male victim ducked the second incoming punch followed by a tug-o-war over his suitcase. The victim held his ground and the muscle-bound suspect rode off on his mountain bike, head likely hung in defeat.
BBQ assault
An altercation between neighbors at a Delridge Way apartment complex on July 28 ended with one man going to the hospital with a stab wound – from a BBQ fork. The suspect’s family was barbequing in the courtyard when the victim’s girlfriend called down from an upstairs apartment asking for help because she thought she had alcohol poisoning. While some of the courtyard family members went to check on the woman, the suspect and victim ignored the situation and got into a verbal argument. The victim came to the courtyard to confront the suspect and several different stories explain what happened next. The victim told police the suspect, working the grill, lunged at him with the BBQ fork and stabbed him. A witness said the victim stabbed himself with the fork while another witness said the victim rushed the suspect, skewering himself on the fork in the process. The victim was transported to Harborview for treatment and the suspect was taken to the Southwest Precinct for investigation of aggravated assault.
