It all started at 11:00 p.m. last night. White Center resident and community activist Aileen Sison had the whimsical idea of creating a Facebook Group with recommendations about "fine-snacking" for under five bucks in White Center, called "W.C. Foodies Snackdown." She got more than just a few nibbles in no time as it seems that area residents have a huge appetite for such culinary cues.
Sison, who one might run into at one of her hangouts such as Cafe Rozella, Luco Food & Wine, and Company Bar, is an agent with John L. Scott, West Seattle Office, and newly appointed District 8 Civil Rights Commissioner as we reported here. The meal-minded advocate is becoming more involved int he White Center Food Bank, too.
With her hand in so many pots, why the snack thing?
"The idea is sharing our best kept foodie secrets of the best food here in White Center," Sison enthused. "Knowing lots of the business owners in White Center, I thought their food needs to be mentioned. There is Yelp, but Facebook is much more interactive and a better social tool to talk about good food.
"I also have good intentions for good business exposure and healthy foods in the neighborhood," she added, "Healthy diverse food. Well, some might not be healthy. Just diverse."
Some of her favorite bites include, she said, "The lox, dill, or caper and cream cheese spread canapé at Cafe Rozella, fresh spring rolls, $2.50 and hum boa, (meat bun) $1.75 that are carried at Hung Long Asian Market and all Vietnamese restaurants, Company's $2 chicken kebabs, Luso's homemade chai tea and natas (portuguese custard tarts) $1.50 each, or three for $4."
A group member writes, "I heart Taqueria La Fondita (the taco truck)."
Another, "Caffè Delia" with a photo of a heart-foamed coffee drink.
How about "Cake Balls from 3.14 Bakery!"
Based on this rapidly-growing FB Page, there are a lot of snacks to "heart" in White Center.
