press release:
November 23, 2012 will be the date for the inaugural Chief Sealth alumni basketball game. In what hopes to become an annual event, the Nels Enquist Alumni Basketball Game will feature a number of former Seahawks in celebrating the school’s rich basketball history.
Both a men’s and women’s game is scheduled for that Friday evening at the Chief Sealth International High School gym, and will be played in succession with the traditional intersquad scrimmage for the current boys and girls teams which kicks off their respective seasons.
The evening of basketball will begin with the girls scrimmage at 5:00pm and has the boys taking the court at 6:00pm. After a brief ceremony, the two alumni games will begin at 7:00pm. Admission to the event will be just $2 with all proceeds going to supporting alumni-related athletic needs.
Proceeds from this first event will go toward a dedication of the gymnasium foyer in Enquist’s name. Enquist has dedicated a majority of his life to Chief Sealth and has walked the halls and athletic facilities as a student, coach, teach, athletic director, assistant principal and now a retiree who still makes himself to substitute regularly. Nearly every Chief Sealth student-athlete has crossed paths with Enquist in some way, at some time.
Alumni interested in participating in the event should contact Chief Sealth Athletic Director Sam Reed at sjreed@seattleschools.org or join the Facebook event group found here. Please include graduating year, contact information and T-shirt size in your communication.
The game will be officiated by the school’s two head coaches, Colin Slingsby and Katie Joe Maris.
Participants in the game will receive a commemorative T-shirt and will be invited to an adult social following the game. For questions, e-mail Reed at sjreed@seattleschools.org or call (206) 252-8603.
