Barroom brawl on California Ave.
At 1:17 a.m. on Tues., March 22, officers responded to a call about a fight on the 4200 block of S.W. Admiral Way. One officer identified a possible suspect in an alley west of California Avenue and College Avenue S.W. Upon the officer’s arrival, two other suspects had fled on foot and could not be located.
The detained suspect said that he had been in a bar with two friends. When he stepped outside, he found one of his friends was being beaten up by a woman with a red Mohawk. He told the officers that after stopping the woman, he and his friends ran away.
The suspect was taken into custody, and the officers went to the bar and spoke with the woman, who reported a different story.
She said that the bartender had kicked the three suspects out of the bar and they had attacked the bartender in retaliation. When she tried to stop the fight, one suspect hit her from behind. She fought back and pinned him to the ground, before his friend came outside and pushed her off and the three then ran down the street.
Thieves on the Street
An officer was dispatched after a report of an armed robbery on the 4500 block of Delridge Way S.W. on Thurs., March 24. The victim had been dropped off for school at 8:55 a.m. and was walking to the sidewalk, lit a cigarette and was looking at his phone, when he heard footsteps. When he turned to see who was coming, he was struck in the cheek by an unidentified male.
The victim was bent over in pain, when another suspect ran up and pepper-sprayed him in the eyes. The victim fell to his knees and the suspects demanded his money.
The victim took two $20 bills out of his pocket, while the suspects continued to punch and kick him. They took the money, and then fled north on Delridge.
The victim said there were three black males and one white male but could not describe them in detail. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects.
Armed Robbery for Cash and Cigarettes
A 911 call about an armed robbery at a store located on the 9000 block of Delridge Way S.W. came in at 1:43 a.m. on Sat., March 26. Officers arrived and the victim was at the store assisting a handful of customers, while still on the phone with 911.
The victim said that a black male in his early 20s, about 5’10” with a medium build, wearing a black hoodie had entered the store with a female in her 40s, about 5’6” wearing a black jacket, a hood covering her hair, sunglasses and blue jeans. He said both suspects were wearing gloves.
At first, the victim only saw the male enter the store. While he was distracted, the female walked around the corner, entering the clerk’s space, holding a semi-automatic pistol.
She demanded he empty his pockets, but he had nothing. She ordered him to open the drawers to both cash registers, and he did. She told him to sit down and not move, as she gathered cigarette packs and handed them to her accomplice, then loaded up with the cash.
The victim believes the registers contained about $500. He remained crouched on the ground until the victims fled. He reported possibly hearing a gunshot outside the store soon after. At that point, he called 911.
The victim is confident he could recognize both suspects if he saw them again. He believes they are regular customers and recognized them from past visits to the store.
A second caller to 911 also reported a gunshot in the area around that time. The caller thought it was in the alley to the west of the 9000 block of 18 Ave. S.W.
Officers found a 9mm cartridge outside the entrance to the business but were unable to locate any damage caused by the bullet.
Officers plan to review surveillance footage as they further investigate the case.
