The Highland Park Action Coalition (HPAC) is set to host its first in-person meeting of the season this Wednesday, September 24th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Delridge Library. The library is located at 5423 Delridge Way SW The meeting will bring together community members and several local organizations to discuss public safety, the future of the West Duwamish Greenbelt, and a proposal to reconnect the South Park neighborhood.
The meeting will begin with a brief update from the Seattle Police Department on local public safety issues, alongside a report from the Unified Care Team on its recent work in the area.
A significant portion of the evening will be dedicated to a conversation with the Ridge to River (R2R) Coalition about the 2025 West Duwamish Greenbelt Public Survey. The West Duwamish Greenbelt, described as an "amazing natural area," is Seattle's largest remaining forest, stretching from the West Seattle Bridge to White Center. It serves as a vital habitat for wildlife and offers residents opportunities for recreation and enjoying nature. R2R is inviting all community members to share their experiences and ideas for the greenbelt and encourages participation in their online survey, available at r2rduwamish.org.
Following the greenbelt discussion, representatives from Reconnect South Park will present their vision for the neighborhood. Their initiative asks, "Is an Alternate Future possible!?" for reuniting areas of the South Park community currently divided by State Route 99. The group sees an opportunity to modernize the "1950's era planning" with a forward-thinking reinvestment aimed at increasing public safety, mobility, and environmental health.
The announcement also highlighted other local happenings, including two final opportunities this season for guided hikes on the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails. Additionally, the Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) has launched its 2025 Membership Drive to support community connections and the rebuilding of the HPIC building
