Residents of the Morgan Junction community have a packed schedule this May, with the latest community bulletin highlighting several key meetings regarding local infrastructure, park developments, and neighborhood celebrations.
Critical Intersection and Park Meetings
The month kicks off with a community forum on Wednesday, May 6, regarding proposed changes to the intersection of SW Rose Street and Fauntleroy Way SW. SDOT representatives will be present at the Southwest Branch of the Seattle Public Library from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to discuss their plans.
Following this, attention shifts to the Morgan Junction Park Expansion on Wednesday, May 13. Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a meeting at The Kenney from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to present an updated design for the addition.
Construction Begins at Lowman Beach
Infrastructure work is already underway as King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division began replacing valves at the Murray Pump Station on May 1. Located at the southeast side of Lowman Beach Park, this project is part of the Murray Force Main Rehabilitation to ensure reliable sewer service.
Residents should expect construction activity along Beach Drive SW starting as early as May 4, with work hours typically running Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. While the sidewalk and beach remain open, there may be intermittent one-lane traffic and typical construction noise. Road and park restoration are slated for this fall and early winter.
Community Celebrations and Culture
On Thursday, May 14, the neighborhood will participate in the monthly West Seattle Art Walk. From 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., local venues from the Admiral District to the Morgan Junction will showcase artists, with over 20 local bars and restaurants offering special deals.
The month concludes with a neighborhood favorite: the Gator Gathering. The Gator Fair will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Gatewood Elementary.
