The Alki Community Council (ACC) is set to gather this Thursday, May 21, from 7:00–8:30 PM at the Alki UCC (6115 Hinds Street) for a meeting focused on "Community, Progress, and Impact". The evening will feature a mix of critical neighborhood safety updates and a special celebration of long-term community service.
A major highlight of the agenda is the "good news" regarding pedestrian safety improvements at Alki Avenue and 63rd Avenue SW, a collaborative effort involving City Councilmember Rob Saka and SDOT. Reflecting on the evening's significance, ACC President Charlotte Starck noted:
“It is a night of gratitude for improvements coming to Alki Avenue and 63rd Avenue pedestrian safety improvements. And in we are recognizing 3 current members and board members who have served for a decade or more shaping Alki life in many ways... and would not be possible without keeping this neighborhood voice alive and active. And they are the three that just keep serving”.
The three Legacy Alki Community Council Volunteers to be honored for their decade-plus of service are:
- Kathy Olson: Current member and advisor, and former Treasurer and Secretary.
- Tony Fragada: Current Board Trustee and former President.
- William Winter: Current Board Trustee and past board officer.
In addition to the awards, the meeting will cover several Safety & Neighborhood Progress topics:
- LIME eBikes and Scooters: Guest speaker Stefan Winkler (SDOT Mobility Manager) will discuss new safety technology and goals for Alki.
- Public Safety: Crime updates from the SPD SW Precinct.
- Emergency Preparedness: A HUB announcement from volunteer Cindi Barker.
The Recreation & Community Wellness segment will include an update on Alki Pickleball from the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association and a discussion on the Resident Recreational Interest Survey, which seeks to bring programs like yoga, art, and hoops back to local community spaces.
Attendees can enter a drawing for a Salty’s gift card door prize and are invited to stay for cake and socializing following the presentations. Please note that there will be no general meetings held in June or August.
