Putting 'fun' in dysfunctional

"The most wonderful time of the year," the time when you hear the sleigh bells ring as you go dashing through the snow. So, start decking those halls and bringing the torch in the air, there's a feeling of Christmas clich/s.

But, if you can't bring yourself to watch one more production of A Christmas Carol or see your niece dance in yet another Nutcracker recital, take heart. There's a new kid in town, and its name is A Tuna Christmas.

The fine folks at Burien Little Theatre are at it again, with another laugh-filled evening of irreverent comic holiday entertainment.

Warriors enjoy magical semifinalB

Got a strange...

Seattle Christian School got a strange magic over the highly successful sports school, Kings -- almost miraculously beating the Knights, 3-2, in a shootout.

The Edmonds school dominated most of the game. It was tied, 1-1, after regulation time and two overtimes in a WIAA Dairy Farmers of Washington 1A/B state semifinal soccer game at Curtis High School Friday, Nov. 17.

"We are good at PKs," said Noelle Simpson, who started the Warriors off with a key first goal in the shootout and scored the game-tier.

Camera footage fails

A local business owner was surely delighted that the video cameras in the parking area captured images of a gas thief in action. The delight probably turned to dismay, however, when a review of the tapes showed that the images focused only on the thief's feet.

It was a dark and stormy night in the 7500 block of Delridge Way, when a pedestrian stepped into the road from between two parked cars. A young driver hit the brakes but his car slightly bumped the man, who did not fall to the ground. The driver stopped, and the pedestrian began yelling and demanded to see the driver's ID.

Is 'road diet' a good idea?

When is a diet not a diet but an artery clogging activity? The answer appears to be when the Seattle Department of Transportation decides to put busy arterial city streets on the "road diet."

A "road diet" is what the city says it wants to consider on 35th Avenuc Southwest because of speeding traffic and pedestrian dangers. That will mean that four heavily used lanes of traffic on 35th will become two lanes. As explained in Tim St.

Mayor, step away from the Town Car

An image of Ron Sims riding his bicycle to work came to mind as I recently read three newspaper articles on city travel expenses, a pedestrian's death in West Seattle and the last about Seattle's police shortage. A strange connection here, you may well ask. I'll explain.

Sims is probably a man who understands from experience the perils of bicycling in this "bicycle friendly" city and, by extension, the perils of the pedestrian.

Police wasting time

It was very interesting to read in the Nov. 22 issue all the articles and editorials about how we need more police. What do we need more police for?

I found it very ironic that a couple of weeks ago I got a ticket for riding a bicycle without a helmet. I took two patrol cars 25 minutes to write me the ticket.

Who knows what they were doing sitting in their cars for so long.

Tunnel 'fiscally irresponsible'

The No Tunnel Alliance is composed of representatives of Seattle industry, business and voters who oppose a Seattle waterfront tunnel.

According to a recent Elway poll, 75 percent of Seattle voters desire a solution other than a tunnel.

We believe the tunnel would be fiscally irresponsible and would not be in the greater public interest. We think the viaduct replacement should meet the State's criteria for preserving roadway capacity - the very genesis of the Alaskan Way project funding. Honest adherence to state criteria suggests:

Democrats have work cut out

The fact that the Democratic Party now controls both the House of Representatives and the Senate, has interjected a glimmer of hope into this otherwise dark period of American history.

For the last six years, the monumental incompetence of President George W. Bush and his administration has led this country into a needless and illegal war that has managed to fragment our society, drain our economic resources and alienate much of the world's population.
