Thanks to those who supported the new community center

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Community Center Support Drive Committee, I would like to extend thanks to the generous citizens of Federal Way who made a financial donation to the new Federal Way Community Center.

We welcome the public to tour the new Center on Saturday, March 31st, beginning at 10:30 a.m.. Individuals, businesses and service organizations donating $1000 or more will be acknowledged at an early morning ceremony, and their names will be engraved and mounted within the building.

The mole hunter: Part II

None of the trees or shrubs in the 1/2 acre yard showed it, but there was a cold wind moving through us. It was just before sunrise, 0500 hours, and the last vestige of moon shunted off the boughs of the big cedars and lit the tops of the fence posts that lined the killing field.

I torqued my stiffened frame around in the lawn chair to inspect my troops but in the still faint light I couldn't make out their positions. Just dark, static lumps that might have been plantings, until one of them moved.

"I'm glad to see you haven't shirked your duties, Lieutenant," I said.

Gators survive wild game one, then lose two

The luck of the draw certainly wasn't with the Decatur Gators for Wednesday's state 4A boys basketball tournament opener, but they made up for it with a David and Goliath routine to edge the towering Snohomish Panthers, 53-50.

All but one Panther player stands above 6-0 and they quickly go up from there to 6-8. The Gators have players ranging from starting sophomore point guard Michael Hale at 5-7 to Darius Walker at 6-5.
