Gov. Chris Gregoire has signed a bill which requires campus safety plans for Washington's colleges and universities.
The measure sponsored by Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles passed both the House and Senate unanimously.
"This bill was written in the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech last year, and on the day we passed the bill in the Senate, another horrible shooting occurred at Northern Illinois University," said Kohl-Welles.
A section of the Alaskan Way Viaduct continues to sink, but state crews have almost completed work to stop it.
Bents 93 and 94, the pairs of columns and their cross braces between Columbia and Yesler streets, sank another 3/8 inch, bringing the total misalignment to about 5 1/2 inches. The most recent measurements were taken during the semi-annual inspection of the viaduct March 22 and 23.
At 6 inches, engineers with the Washington State Department of Transportation said repairs would be required.

Boy Scout Troop 237 is proud to announce the honoring of three young men who were recently awarded their Eagle rank, the highest rank in Scouting.
James Godwin, James Hendrie, and Adam Baughman received their rank advancement at an Eagle Court of Honor held March 15 at All Saints Lutheran Church.
All of these young men are 18 years old.
James Godwin and Adam Baughman are seniors at Thomas Jefferson High School, and James Hendrie is a senior at Bellarmine Preparatory School.

For the fourth time in Todd Beamer High School's short five-year history, the Titan Dance Team walked away with the coveted title of State Champions.
Competing in the Hip Hop category, the Beamer Dance team bested teams from across the State in the 4A tourney in Yakima March 21.
Beamer also won the hip hop championship in 2007 as well as 2004 and 2005.
Since hip hop became a separate dance category at the WIAA tournament in 2004, the Titan dancers have taken 1st place each year but one.

Snow caused problems for area sports teams last week, most notably forcing the postponement of two soccer games at Federal Way Memorial on Friday. Soccer teams usually go on no matter what the weather.
Kentwood was scheduled to be at Federal Way and Rogers was set to visit Todd Beamer.
Also postponed were baseball and fastpitch games including Thomas Jefferson at Decatur matchups in both sports.

The Port of Seattle opened Sea-Tac International Airport's new northbound Airport Expressway and return-to-terminal loop roadway March 27, significantly reducing congestion for traffic leaving the airport._
_This is a major step in relocating the expressway to accommodate more than a mile of light rail guideway between the northbound and southbound traffic lanes.
The recent construction replaces the old road expressway that was inadequate for increasing traffic levels and contributed to long vehicle queues during peak periods.
