Naked man broke into a business, was later taken by force and arrested

At 3:49AM Tuesday, officers responded to a reported commercial burglary. The call stated that a naked male broke out the front window of a business, climbed inside, deployed a fire extinguisher inside the business, and then left with the extinguisher.

The caller noted that the subject was bloody from climbing through the broken glass. The suspect was gone when officers arrived.

A short time later and nearby, 911 received a call of a naked bloody male sitting on the stairs of an apartment complex. Officers arrived and observed the suspect who had a large rock in their hand.

Officers attempted to contact them from a distance, but the suspect would not engage. Several officers cross dispatched to assist.

Seattle Public Utilities announces sewer smoke testing in Arbor Heights for leak detection

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is set to begin sewer inspections using a method called "smoke testing" in West Seattle’s Arbor Heights Neighborhood, with work scheduled from late July through the end of August 2025. This initiative is part of SPU's ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and the environment by maintaining essential sewer and drainage systems.

The project aims to identify sewer leaks and pipe connection problems within the public right-of-way. SPU has contracted Pro-Vac to conduct these inspections. The process involves blowing a colorless water vapor, often referred to as “smoke,” into sewer pipes through maintenance holes. This "smoke" is non-toxic and non-staining, although it may carry a distinctive odor. It is capable of traveling up to 1,500 feet within the sewer pipe.

NWSA sees sharp drop in international imports as tariff threats loom for key asian trade partners

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) has reported a significant 43.4% decrease in international imports for the week ending July 4, a downturn attributed primarily to fewer vessel calls than anticipated. West Seattle High School music instructor Ethan Thomas was awarded $10,000 for his educational efforts by the Manilow Project during the Barry Manilow concert in Seattle July 12.

Lauded by Barry Manilow on his farewell tour he said,

The festivities begin early with Summer Fest Eve on Thursday, July 10, from 5 PM to 8 PM, presented by Tito’s Vodka and Freight Beer. This "locals-first party" is dedicated to the West Seattle community, transforming the Junction into a summer night celebration. The streets will be closed, allowing attendees to wander, dance, and play freely.

Seattle Department of Transportation halts plans for new Alki Avenue SW parking amidst divided community feedback

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has announced its decision to not proceed with installing new parking on the waterside of Alki Avenue SW, following an extensive public survey that revealed a deeply divided community.

This decision comes after the Seattle City Council’s 2025 Budget Proviso SDOT-005-A directed up to $175,000 for parking adjustments in West Seattle, which included modifying parking at Duwamish Head and exploring new spaces on Alki Avenue SW.

The initial phase of adjustments saw angled parking at Duwamish Head converted to parallel parking in June, while maintaining the 11 PM to 5 AM restrictions. The proviso allowed SDOT to consider adding parallel parking between the 1200 and 1700 blocks of Alki Ave SW to address the net loss of spaces. To gather community input, a survey was conducted, receiving over 880 responses from residents and visitors over approximately three weeks.

UPDATE: Arrests made in violent stabbing of teen girl in West Seattle
Family seeks support from the public

Update 7/10/25

Marysville Police arrested a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy on July 8 in connection with the stabbing of a 17-year-old girl in West Seattle.  

The arrest followed a Seattle police investigation into the July 5 incident. Officers booked both teens into Youth Service Center for investigation of attempted murder 2nd degree. 

Seattle Police Homicide and Assault Unit detectives are continuing to lead the ongoing investigation.

The family of the 17 year old girl stabbed in the Delridge neighborhood has reached out on social media seeking support. The girl's mother, Hillary Walker posted the following:

Our family is going through an incredibly difficult time after the violent attack on my 17-year-old daughter in West Seattle on July 5, 2025. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has reached out; your support means the world to us.

Summer collegiate

The DubSea Fish Sticks of White Center entertain Everett for a 6:35 p.m. Friday game at Mel Olson Stadium inside Steve Cox Memorial Park.

Redmond pays a visit at 6:05 p.m. Saturday before the Fish Sticks drop in on the DRI team Monday and travel to Port Angeles Tuesday.

The DubSea team hosts the Northwest Honkers at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.

 

Little League

The state Major all-star tournament for ages 10-12 opens in Vancouver this Saturday with the area District 7 champion playing District 1 at 4 p.m. to open.

The tournament runs through Sunday, July 20.

In ongoing District 7 action, the age 9-11 tournament concludes Friday at Petrovitsky Park in Renton and the age 8-10 tournament hosted by South Highline National ends Saturday.

Sound Transit Board to consider resolution authorizing key property acquisitions for West Seattle Link Extension

The Sound Transit Board's System Expansion Committee and the full Board are scheduled to consider Resolution No. R2025-16 this month, which seeks to authorize the acquisition of crucial real property interests for the West Seattle Link Extension Project (WSLE). The proposed action grants the chief executive officer the authority to acquire properties, including through condemnation if necessary, and to reimburse eligible relocation and reestablishment expenses for affected owners and tenants. The resolution is slated for consideration by the System Expansion Committee on July 10, and by the Board on July 24.
