By Tim Clinton

SPORTS EDITOR

It was a week of dominant performances and lopsided victories across westside High School athletics.

In baseball, Kennedy Catholic asserted their authority by twice defeating the Auburn Trojans, while West Seattle remained perfect through the week with three wins, including a shutout of Cleveland. A rare high-scoring tie also occurred on the diamond between Evergreen and Rainier Beach.

The fastpitch softball diamonds saw even more explosive offensive displays. West Seattle waltzed to a massive 32-0 victory over Cleveland, while Chief Sealth and Ballard also secured blowout wins, scoring 28 and 23 runs respectively in their dominant outings.

Seattle Police Department invites public to shape the future of policing through "Before the Badge" dialogues

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is calling on residents and workers across the city to participate in a series of community-police dialogues as part of its innovative "Before the Badge" (BTB) training program. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the neighborhoods they serve by facilitating direct engagement before recruits even begin their formal academy training.

Building Relationships from the Start

The Before the Badge program is a mandatory prerequisite for all new SPD recruits prior to their entry into the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy. The primary goal of these dialogues is to provide Seattle community members an opportunity to share their expectations for new officers and highlight specific concerns at the precinct and neighborhood levels.

A local legend gets a delicious new twist: Meet the Westside Seattle Wonder Sandwich

Available starting March 29 at Husky Deli

While Husky Deli in the West Seattle Junction has long been a local legend for its incredible variety of ice cream, it has also been a staple for sandwich lovers for more than 35 years. Recently, a new star was born in the deli's kitchen: the Westside Seattle Wonder Sandwich, a custom-branded creation crafted by Jack Miller himself.

Jack Miller, who considers himself a sandwich expert after decades of experience, personally oversaw the making of this new masterpiece. When dreaming up a new menu item, Jack’s philosophy is all about balance and quality. "You're trying to figure out what goes well together and you don't want to overdo it," Miller explained, noting that the key is ensuring no single ingredient—like a heavy mustard or pesto—overpowers the rest.

No Kings protest fills the junction with voices of resistance

The No Kings Protest on March 28 in opposition to the policies of the Trump Administration filled the West Seattle Junction with hundreds of protestors.

The Seattle Police put up barricades in the north and south bound lane of California Ave. SW for public safety but Alaska Street remained open.

The Greater Seattle area was home to 66 scheduled events with more than 3,000–3,300 events across all 50 states.

Organizers described the day as potentially the largest domestic political protest in U.S. history. USA Today and CBS News reported expectations of millions of participants, with CBS citing over 9 million projected nationwide.

TIME noted that previous No Kings actions drew 5 million (June 2025) and 7 million (October 2025), and organizers expected March 28 to exceed those numbers.
