Police investigating armed robbery in West Seattle

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

by Detective Eric Muñoz on March 3, 2026 7:40 am

Seattle police officers are investigating an armed robbery of a West Seattle gas station this morning.

At 2:20 a.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a robbery in the 4500 block of Fauntleroy Way Southwest. There, police determined that four masked men, driving a stolen Hyundai Sonata, robbed a gas station clerk at gunpoint, stealing between $500-600 cash.

The suspects fled the scene in the car before officers arrived. Police searched the area, but they could not find the suspects, and no arrests were made. Officers collected evidence and processed the scene. The clerk did not report any injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call the violent crimes tip line at 206-233-5000. Anonymous tips are accepted. Detectives in the Robbery Unit will be assigned to this case.

School of Rock West Seattle hits a high note with grand re-opening after flood repairs

After months of silence, the music is returning to School of Rock West Seattle. The school has announced a grand re-opening event scheduled for March 7th, 2026, from noon to 3 pm.

The facility was forced to close its doors in October 2025 following a major water leak originating from a CVS pharmacy located directly above the school. The resulting water damage required a complete rebuild of the space, which the school confirms is now finished and ready for students.

Grand Re-Opening Festivities

The celebration on March 7th will feature a variety of activities for the community:

Band gearing up for Crocodile show March 21

In an era where streaming services dominate the landscape and recorded music often serves as a digital business card for live performances, the West Seattle-based band Marsalis is proving that the heart of the industry still beats through the song. Since forming in 2016, the group, composed of lead singer and guitarist Dennis Zender, keyboardist Theresa Cadondon, bassist Adam Bishop, has been navigating the "mercurial mix of melody, meaning, and timing" that defines a breakout act.

Massive "Big Blue #70" heavy-lift crane enters Elliott Bay, bound for Vigor Shipyard

On March 1, the towering Big Blue #70 was spotted moving through Elliott Bay aboard barge OG 723, towed by the tug Ocean Tower. The massive, blue heavy-lift portal crane, which stands approximately 200 feet tall, is destined for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) in Bremerton, but is making a critical intermediate stop at Vigor Shipyard for final preparations.

Built in 2023 by Manitowoc and designed by the Finnish company Konecranes, the $55 million crane is part of a major U.S. Navy modernization contract. Its arrival follows an epic 7,000-mile journey that began in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and traversed the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Panama Canal. This high-profile transport route has made the crane a recurring subject in maritime and local news over the several months it took to complete its transit.
