Ben Busby-Collins started his organic soap company six years ago in his kitchen. Now, his company is closing doors.
Ballard Organics will be closing doors at the end of this week, owner Ben Busby-Collins announced.
Despite their fundraising efforts earlier this year, and the downsizing of the company, Ballard Organics cannot survive.
At the start of February, Busby-Collins announced that Ballard Organics is in trouble and needed community support to stay open. The plea for help received a great response through customers buying soap or stock. In three weeks, Ballard Organics made an equivalent of four months in sales but it wasn't enough to stay in their manufacturing site.
In a phone interview at that time, Busby-Collins aid, "I'm definitely nervous. I started this company six years ago in my kitchen. I love my product and want the company to succeed."
He said when he opened his business the economy was good and business was booming for Ballard Organics. They got caught up in the excitement of growth potential and moved into a large warehouse.
Busby-Collins explained that overhead from the larger facility combined with slower growth and struggling business partners put them in the tough situation they're in now.
In his closing announcement today, Busby-Collins thanked the community for six years of support.
"I started Ballard Organics with the intention of making the best soaps possible. It’s been incredibly rewarding to build the company from scratch and develop such a loyal customer base who’ve ranked Ballard Soaps as one of their favorites," Busby-Collins wrote.
Ballard Organics will be having a clearance sale on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th. Prices will be highly discounted. They will also be selling furniture and equipment. The items available for sale will be posted on the Ballard Organics website on June 12.
