A man called police early on the morning of August 14th to report that he had been attacked for no reason. The victim said that he was walking along Market St when a man holding a beer bottle came up and started yelling at him. The victim told the suspect to “shut up,” and the suspect hit him in the left eye with the beer bottle. The force of the blow was strong enough to shatter the bottle. The victim suffered swelling and bleeding to the area surrounding his eye.
The victim told police that he fought back after he was struck until the suspect begged him to stop. He said that the suspect eventually walked away. The victim also said that he briefly lost consciousness after he called 911. The responding officer found the victim to be visibly intoxicated, and the victim was taken to Swedish in Ballard for further treatment.
The victim told police that he would be able to identify the suspect if he saw him again and said that the suspect would have facial injuries, because the victim “got some good shots on him” in the face. He said that the suspect was a clean-shaven Hispanic male. A witness to the incident told police that the suspect appeared to be a white male with stubble. He also said that the victim and the suspect actually walked together for a moment before the victim returned to the scene to call 911. The suspect was not found in the area.

A Ballard business was burglarized on the night of August 9th. A store employee arrived on the morning of August 10th to find that the back door had been forced open. The responding officer noticed that the door to the store’s office safe was wide open. The complainant said that the safe was the only thing that appeared to be disturbed. The safe had damage, but the complainant said that it was old damage. The complainant told police that he believed the safe had been opened by someone with knowledge of the combination. No fingerprints were found on the safe.
12:22 p.m. on August 8th. 92nd block of 24th Ave NW
A man returned from walking his dogs on the morning of August 8th to find that his home had been burglarized. He said that a bathroom window had been disturbed and told the responding officer that he believed the burglar entered through that window and left through the front door. The suspect stole several items and cash. Some jewelry may also have been taken, but the victim was uncertain about this. The responding officer found several partial prints on items the burglar had touched. He was able to confirm that the bathroom window was the point of entry. Shoe marks were found on the wall right outside the bathroom window.
