In the last week, two separate assaults took place at bus stops along 15th Avenue NW.
The first incident happened around 9:50 a.m. on August 19 as a man exciting a Metro bus was intimidated with a knife.
Police reports state that a man flagged down a patrol car along 15th Avenue N.W. and N.W. 80th and explained that a man had just "pulled a knife on him".
The victim stated that he had been on the same bus as the suspect and when the bus reached the victim's stop, the suspect followed the man and told him to get off the bus.
Unsure if the suspect was talking to him, the victim turned around and the suspect repeated his demand using profanities.
The victim got off the bus and once the bus left the suspect continued calling the victim names.
The suspect then approached the victim, swung his shoulder bag around and pulled out a knife with the blade exposed.
The suspect pointed the knife at the victim and thinking he was going to get stabbed, the victim picked up a brick from the ground to defend himself. As the victim bend down, the suspect lunged at the him. The victim backed away and the suspect walked away.
Unharmed, the victim followed the suspect to keep him in sight and when he spotted the patrol car, he flagged it down.
The victim described the suspect and said he was walking northbound on 15th Avenue.
The police officer found the suspect and asked him to put down his bag down.
The officer patted the suspect down and found a large knife in his pants pocket.
The suspect was handcuffed, received his Miranda rights and was booked for assault and the unlawful use of a weapon to Intimidate.
The second bus stop assault incident happened in the early morning hours of August 20.
Around 2:30 a.m., a police officer was dispatched to the intersection of 15th Avenue N.W. and N.W. Market St in reference to a fight disturbance.
Upon arrival, the officer observed a male, with obvious facial injuries, stumbling in the street.
The injured male stated that he had been at the bus stop waiting for the bus when a group of males approached him and began to argue with him.
The argument escalated into a fight. The injured man said he had been drinking and the group of attackers had been intoxicated as well.
Bottles of beer were being thrown around in the fight, and the man was struck in the face by a beer bottle, causing minor lacerations to his nose and both cheeks. After being struck with the bottle, the fight ended and police arrived on scene.
Other witnesses gave accounts of what had happened at the bus stop but these witnesses were intoxicated and their accounts were badly slurred and largely incoherent.
The fire department aided the injured man and after refusing further aid, the man asked to return to the bus stop so he could go home.
