Suspect attempts assault with tree branch
On Jan. 24, officers responded to an assault report at the 3600 block of Leary Way Northwest. Officers located the suspect who told them that the victim had “beat him up.” He said that he was having a discussion with the suspect in his car with his female friend when the suspect started verbally abusing the female victim and then attacked her. The two men scuffled and the male and female victims fled the scene and took refuge at a local pizza shop. They locked themselves in and asked the staff to call the police. The suspect ran up to the glass doors of the pizza shop carrying a large tree branch. The suspect tried to break into the building but gave up before officers arrived a few minutes later. He wasn’t carrying the branch when officers arrived. Later officers spoke with the female victim who told officers that the suspect had not attacked her after all. Officers reported that she did not appear to have had any injuries. Witnesses at the pizza shop said they did see the suspect carrying a tree branch in an aggressive manner. Officers determined the suspect had committed assault and booked him at King County Jail.
