Business burglary suspected as inside job
Police are searching for a burglar after a business located on the 600 block of Seaview Avenue N.W. was broken into on Nov. 8. The business owner called police after he arrived to work and found the front window smashed through and the cash register disturbed. $200 was taken from the register and a small safe containing another $350 was taken. Police believe that the burglar threw a large chunk of concrete through the window to gain entry. Police found a piece of paper taped to the alarm system motion sensor, which disengaged the alarm. The security cameras were also disabled. Police believe the suspect was either an employee or a regular customer who was familiar with the alarm system and cameras. Two muddy handprints were found at the scene, and police submitted the piece of paper for fingerprints.
Piggy bank stolen from office
A business located on the 1700 block of N.W. Market Street was burglarized on Nov. 9. The business owner arrived at the office that morning and found the place a mess. Papers were thrown about and miscellaneous office items were taken, such as a bank statement record book and a piggy bank containing a few dollars. The suspect had pulled the wires to the security system from the wall. Police believe the suspect attempted to disarm the system. However, Seattle Fire Department did respond to a fire alarm at the office the night before. The office was cleaned before police arrived, and officers were unable to lift any fingerprints from the scene.
$3,600 of jewelry stolen from Ballard home
A Ballard resident is missing $3,600 of jewelry after her home, located on the 300 block of N.W. 97th Street, was burglarized on Nov. 10. She left for work that morning and came home later that day to find her door kicked in. The doorframe was badly damaged and pieces of wood from the frame were on the floor. The complainant walked through the house to make sure no one was still there. Then she called police. The master bedroom and her daughter’s room were the only rooms disturbed. A jewelry box containing a pearl necklace, diamond earrings and other items were stolen. A camera, pocket watch and her daughter's jewelry box were also stolen. The estimated value if the stolen items is $3,600. The complainant cleaned her home before police arrived, and officers were unable to lift any fingerprints from the scene.
