Victim fends off car prowler armed with knife
A Ballard man was assaulted when he warded off a car prowler inside his parking garage on the 1700 block of N.W. 62nd Street on June 9. The victim told police that he saw the suspect exiting his building when he arrived home. He thought the man didn’t look familiar but considered he was a guest of another tenant’s. About ten minutes later he looked out his window to the parking port area and saw the suspect breaking into his car window with a rock. The victim ran down from his apartment after the suspect. He shouted "Hey! Come here!" The suspect turned to run, but the complainant caught him. The suspect punched the victim on the arms and stomach and got away, but the suspect managed to put him in a headlock. The suspect slipped free and ran down an alleyway. The victim caught up to him. The suspect told him he was sorry and that he’d pay for the window. He offered the victim his headphones. The complainant refused and called for someone to call the police. Then the suspect brandished a knife. The complainant feared for his life and stood down. The man ran off but left his headphones, a flashlight and vape pipe. Police submitted all these for evidence. No fingerprints were found at the scene.
