Shoplifter turns violent
At 11:35 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 17, officers received a call about a robbery in the 1500 block of N.W. Market Street. When the police arrived, they first checked the area for suspects. They heard that suspects could be on a Metro bus so they pulled one over and found someone sitting in the back, who matched the description. He told officers that he had been involved in an incident. Officers detained the man. The victim said he was working in a store, when a shoplifter put a can of mixed nuts in his pants. He tried to stop the suspect, but he held up a knife and threatened to cut his face. The victim was able to positively identify the man from the bus. The man was arrested and sent to King County Jail.
Robbery on 5th Avenue N.W.
When officers arrived in the 4300 block of 5th Avenue N.W. around 4:30 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 14, they found that the victim would not answer questions. The nephew of the victim said that his uncle had been slapped by a woman. The woman took his ATM card and stole his PIN number. The caller said the suspect was a transient who sometimes crashed at his house. There were no visible injuries, and victim declined medical attention. Officers checked for the suspect but were unsuccessful in finding her.
Apartment burglarized on N.W. 52nd Street
At 2:45 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 20, officers responded to a call about a burglary in the 1500 block of N.W. 52nd Street. The victim was distraught. She left the day before at 2 p.m. and returned to find the front door unlocked and items missing from her apartment. She said the suspect may have a master key to the apartment, as contractors were working on site.
Attempted burglary on N.W. 85th Street
A property manager in the 100 block of N.W. 85th Street called police around 3:40 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 20. He said that a back door had been opened at his business but found no missing property. He thought that a burglary happened over the weekend.
Bar burglarized
At 1:30 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 17, officers arrived on the scene in the 2300 block of N.W. Market Street to investigate a burglary. The business owner said one of the cooks arrived at work to discover that items at the bar were disturbed. Then they noticed that the door on the east side of the business had been kicked in, and they realized the place had been burglarized. The damage to the frame of the door was estimated at $400. In addition, about $500 worth of liquor had been stolen. The suspects also took business checks and had already attempted to cash two for $800 each. The suspects also broke a register and stole credit cards that had been left behind by customers. The door to the basement offices were kicked in and damaged. The suspects took cash bags from the offices containing $1,000 or more. Staff members believe that the criminal could be a transient in the area who had been harassing them. No fingerprints were located at the scene.
